Financial Education Videos
Community Capital Resources, with support from the New York Banking Department, has prepared eight videos on topics relating to personal financial management. Each video is eight to ten minutes in length and illustrates best financial practices through the enactment of various real world scenarios. The videos all have Discussion Guides which can be accessed, along with workbooks and handouts on the topics covered.
Free Yourself from Debt
Jane is seeking help from her minister with her debts. She had an accident that caused her to fall behind; fortunately, her minister has had some experience in the finance industry and is able to advise her. He helps her develop a debt repayment plan and encourages her to call her creditors and negotiate. He explains the impact of non payment and helps Jane to prioritize her debts.
You Can Take It to the Bank
A sister meets her younger brother who has just converted his first paycheck into cash. She points out to him all thebenefits having a bankaccount would provide for him. The video covers how to select a bank that is right for you, how to write a check, the difference between checking and savings accounts, the costs and dangers of not having a bank account.
Taking Stock (and Bonds)
Three co-workers on their lunch break discuss a recent bonus and raise that their employer has announced. One of theemployees says she is going to save the whole bonus because she has been saving for a condo. The discussion goes on to cover different types of savings products including CDs, Money Market Accounts, Stocks, Mutual Funds and 401(k) accounts.

A young couple is speaking with their Uncle, a car salesman about a new car that they want to buy. Unfortunately, they find out that they have a poor credit rating and will not be eligible for the 0% financing that is offered. Their Uncle takes the time to explain about credit reports, credit scores, the impact they have on the cost of loans and steps you can take to improve your score.

A young couple is meeting with a Realtor to talk about buying a home. They are uncertain what the differences are between co-ops and condos as well as if they should buy a fixer upper or two family house. They also have some questions about the types of mortgages that are out there and just how much all of this is going to cost.

Dave sits down with his older brother to talk about the trip he took during his college’s spring break. His older brother is concerned about how Dave is going to pay for the trip. Dave tells him not to worry, that it has been paid for with his credit card. A discussion of the benefits and pitfalls of credit cards follows.

Bob and Sally are neighbors. Sally has recently gone through a divorce voices her concern about the maintenance items that her husband used to handle. Bob points out both routine maintenance and long term maintenance issues. He suggests that Sally have a home inspection company do an assessment. After the assessment, they discuss how she would pay for some of the repairs she may be facing.
